Re-Creation | Unisex Essentials Fear of God Jackie Robinson x NLBM Sport Pullover Hoodie in Grey
Heather grey pullover hoodie with Kansas City Monarchs branding, Robinson’s number 5, and a Negro Leagues Baseball Museum patch on the sleeve. The Essentials Jackie Robinson X NLBM Hoodie is part of the Fear of God Essentials “April 15” capsule, a three-way collaboration between the Jackie Robinson Estate, Major League Baseball, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. The capsule launched on April 15, 2026, the date every MLB player wears number 42 in Robinson’s honor.
Before He Was 42, He Was Number 5
Most people know Jackie Robinson as number 42 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The NLBM X Essentials Jackie Robinson Hoodie in Grey tells the part of the story that gets skipped. In 1945, Robinson played shortstop for the Kansas City Monarchs, wearing number 5, and hit .375 across 47 games in just five months. He made $400 a month. The Monarchs were a war-depleted roster that needed an infielder, and Robinson was a UCLA multi-sport athlete who had just received an honorable discharge from the Army after being court martialed for refusing to move to the back of a segregated military bus. He was not the best player in the Negro Leagues at the time. Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson both had stronger claims. But Branch Rickey of the Brooklyn Dodgers chose Robinson because he needed someone with the discipline to absorb racial abuse without retaliating. Rickey signed Robinson out of that Monarchs season in October 1945, and 18 months later, he walked onto Ebbets Field and ended baseball’s color barrier. This hoodie carries the number and the patch from the Kansas City chapter of that story, not the Brooklyn one.
Fear of God’s Baseball Partnership
The Essentials Jackie Robinson NLBM Sweatshirt sits within a broader relationship between Fear of God and MLB, which became official in September 2025 as a multiyear partnership through Fanatics. Founder Jerry Lorenzo, whose father, Jerry Manuel, managed in the major leagues, first connected the brand to Negro Leagues history in 2020 with an NLBM capsule collection. The April 15 drop adds the Robinson Estate to that foundation and includes a Brooklyn Dodgers hoodie with number 42, a Dodgers tee, and this Monarchs hoodie with number 5. A campaign film directed by Calmatic follows a young player through his morning routine as he heads to the ballpark.
The Essentials Fear of God Jackie NLBM x Robinson Sport Pullover Grey Hoodie uses Fear of God’s signature core fleece with a relaxed, slightly cropped silhouette. Felt lettering on the front, NLBM jersey patch on the sleeve, and puffer print branding on the back. Denver Jackets carries this re-creation in grey from XS through 6XL with a custom size option. Machine wash cold inside out, tumble dry low.
